Open House

The 32nd annual Recreation Department’s Open House will feature class demonstrations, registration for spring programs and information booths from community organizations. The Romeoville Razzlers Dance Team, the Romeoville Sparx Cheerleading Team and the Romeoville Tumbleweeds Gymnastics Team will be featured during this event. The Fit 4 Life Fitness Center and Jungle Safari Indoor Playground will be open – no admission will be charged. Inflatables, giveaways, and raffles are all part of this exciting event. Stop by and see what the Village of Romeoville, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the community have to offer.


March 27th


Breakfast with the Bunny
9:00-11:00am
Breakfast with the Bunny is the one-stop place for all your bunny-themed activities – Mr. and Mrs. Bunny will be joining the Recreation Department for breakfast and you’re invited too! Get your picture taken with the bunny, play in the inflatables or just come for the breakfast – whatever you’re here for, you’re guaranteed to have a good time! Pre-registration is required for Breakfast with the Bunny activities.  Children under one year of age are free. For children 1 to 12 years of age fee is $11 for Romeoville residents ($15/non Romeoville residents) and includes breakfast and activities.  For participants age 13 and up fee is $8 for Romeoville residents ($12/non Romeoville residents) and includes breakfast only – no activities.

Egg Hunt
11:15am
A free outdoor Egg Hunt will follow Breakfast with the Bunny activities. Children will search for eggs in separate age groups beginning at 11:15am. Please bring a bag or basket to collect eggs in and dress appropriately for the weather. No registration is required for the Egg Hunt. Hunt times for ages 3-12 are subject to change depending on participation.

Springtide Craft Show
9:00am-3:00pm
The sixth annual spring craft show features a variety of talented crafters offering many different items for sale! There is no entrance fee for the public to shop the craft show. Interested craft vendors may download a Craft Contract and Waiver here or pick up one at the Recreation Center’s front desk.  Forms must be mailed in or dropped off.  Registration for this event may not be submitted online. Registration deadline is Thursday, April 1, 2010 or until all spaces are filled. Space is limited and accepted on a first come, first paid basis. Craft vendor fee is $30 per 10’ x 8’ space – space does not include a table.  Fee for table is $10.

T-ball and Girl’s Softball Opening Day Parade
Kickoff at 9:00am
Celebrate the opening day of T-ball and Girl’s Softball with a parade by the little stars themselves!  Awards will be given to teams, so decorate your vehicle, shout loudly, and show what team spirit really means!

Romeoville residents, in the goal of good sportsmanship, please remove your car parked along the parade route between the hours of 9:00am and 11:00am.  Also remember the parade route roads will be closed while the parade is taking place, so please plan an alternate route if necessary.


April 25th


Earth Day Kite Fly
12:00-3:00pm
Volunteer Park, 1100 Murphy Dr.
Pack a picnic lunch, bring your lawn chairs, and watch the kites take flight as we celebrate National Kite Fly Month, the arrival of spring, and Earth Day!  Bring your own favorite kite and let’s fill the sky with color.  Free children’s activities will complement kite flying.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.


May 2nd

Cinco de Mayo 5K Run/1 Mile Walk
Kick off at 8:00am
Join the race for the ninth annual Cinco de Mayo 5K Run/1 Mile Walk – athletes of all ages are welcome!  Register beginning March 15, 2010 at www.romeoville.org

and make it easy on yourself – register early for a discounted rate!  Registration will also be taken the day of the race beginning at 7:00am.  T-shirts are available to the first 200 registrants.  The flat course is CARA certified and will be held at the Romeoville Recreation Center rain or shine – so please dress for the weather!  Strollers are allowed but must start behind runners.  Bicycles, in-line skates, other wheeled vehicles (except wheelchairs), and dogs are not allowed.  Call the Romeoville Recreation Department at (815) 886-6222 for more information.

Ribbons will be given to all participants.  Other awards will be given to the first place overall runner, first place overall walker, the top three male runners in each age group, and the top three female runners in each age group.

Community Garage Sale

The Village of Romeoville, Showcase Classics, and Harris Bank invite you to the eighth annual Downtown Redevelopment Car Show! Whether you have a car to enter or just want to enjoy the cars as a spectator, you’ll have a great time.

Independence Day Celebration

Island Breeze

Island Breeze is the fourth annual cooperative special event between the Romeoville Recreation Department and Lockport Township Park District. Bring your family and friends out for a Sunday night of fun! Activities include a 75 foot survivor obstacle course, 25 foot rock climbing wall, 18 foot high palm tree slide, tropical moon jump, hula hoop contest, limbo, and DJ. The Barefoot Hawaiian will also be there for a two hour presentation (7:00-9:00pm) of live music, hula dancers, and fire shows. Concessions, snow cones, and cotton candy will be available to purchase. The rain date for this event is scheduled for Sunday, July 18. Summer Photo Op

Represent your town, Romeoville residents, in this photo op!  We’re looking for photogenic, active people to participate – adults or kids, everyone is welcome.  If you’re interested in being a model resident then sign up to get your picture taken.  Pictures will be used in brochures, trifolds, posters, videos, and everything else representing Romeoville.  Adults and children will play on the playground with minimal guidance from a photographer.  All children must be accompanied by an adult and all pets must be leashed and cleaned up after.  Participants should sign up for a time slot between the hours of 3:00pm and 5:00pm when registering and a participation waiver must be signed prior to being photographed.  Call the Romeoville Recreation Department at (815) 886-6222 for more information.

RomeoFest
Join the Village of Romeoville for RomeoFest – four days of carnival rides, games, entertainment, live music, food, and fun!  The fest will be held outside on the Recreation Department’s grounds, 900 W. Romeo Rd.  Thursday and Friday the fest opens at 5:00pm; Saturday and Sunday activities begin at 12:00pm.  Activities include live music from various bands, sports tournaments, and children’s activities, entertainment and games. Founder’s Day Parade

Begins at the corner of Belmont Dr. and Newland Ave.

Halloween Fest

The annual, fun-for-all-ages Halloween Fest is co-sponsored by the Romeoville Chamber of Commerce.  Activities are free to all Romeoville residents and will be held outdoors at Romeoville’s Village Park so please dress for the weather!  Bring a bag to collect goodies along the Trick-or-Treat Trail and dress in your Halloween costume for the Costume Contest for kids up to age 12!  A list of other children’s activities and Costume Contest times will be available closer to the event date.  Costume Contest times may vary depending on weather and participation.  Please go to the judge’s stand the day of the event for the most updated times and age groups. Bring your Christmas wish list and smile big for a picture and visit with Santa!  Create festive holiday art or enjoy the many other exciting children’s activities during this Winter Wonderland.  Mark your calendars for this exciting event!  Check back closer to the event date for list of all indoor activities.  Participants MUST pre-register for the indoor activities; event pricing will be available closer to the event date.  All children must be accompanied by a paid adult.  This event is held in conjunction with the outdoor Tree Lighting Festival. Tree Lighting Festival

Watch as we light up the night with festive lights on the 30’ spruce tree outside of the Recreation Center!  Enjoy other outdoor activities, including ice sculpture demonstrations and crafts, and finish your evening warming up with a cup of hot chocolate.  This FREE event is outdoors so please dress for the weather.  The Tree Lighting Festival is held in conjunction with the indoor Winter Wonderland.  Winter Wonderland fees will be available closer to the event date and participants must pre-register.
